About Brittany Harris, DCHM, hom

From the beginning, homeopathy has been in my life; I grew up going to homeopaths and naturopaths. In particular, I was always enamored with homeopathic remedies, although never considered it as a career until after my undergraduate degree. After getting my bachelor’s (in Classical Music) at Mount Holyoke College, I worked as a direct care worker at a center for low-income children with disabilities and witnessed their struggles firsthand, while working as a singer in the evenings. My clients were often on 10-15 medications, most of which weren’t tested on children of their age and had debilitating side effects. Watching the quality of life offered to these children engendered deep dissatisfaction with the conventional treatment options for this population.

I spent the next years researching homeopathy, supplements, detoxes, diets, and more in my spare time. After years of working multiple jobs and late nights spent researching, a personal health crisis of my own forced me to finally take a leap of faith and change careers.

A week after my decision, I was on a plane travelling to Canada to study at the Canadian College of Homeopathic Medicine in Toronto. Soon, I also enrolled at the Naturopathic College in Toronto. Passionate about research, I published in Homeopathy Today and URNST before graduating from both programs and received an Excellence in Homeopathy award through Boiron. When I reached the residency portion of both programs, I found time and again that homeopathy always worked fastest, most completely and with the fewest side effects for my patients. So, when I started my private practice, I decided to only practice homeopathy.

In addition to the clinical effects I have seen, homeopathy is the most concrete and fact-based medicine I have found; the practice of homeopathy involves compiling the patient’s list of symptoms and matching the symptoms to a substance that is known to create a similar effect. There is no expensive testing, no dismissal of a patient’s experience because a diagnosis doesn’t exist, no guessing, no theories, just matching one fact to the other. The remedy seems to trigger the body’s natural healing response, resulting in lasting healing from very low and often infrequent doses of a medicine. Treatment with homeopathy is lasting, inexpensive, and can help with almost any condition. I am grateful that such a medicine exists, and that I get to share it with my patients.
